Was that a physical or mental work out?

Another tough session on the turbo which on paper should have been well within my abilities. But before the warm up was complete the power numbers were down and it felt like the back brake was stuck on!

As the red mist washed through my mind and the mind games began i started the main set. It felt awful and the rate of perceived effort far outweighed the power I was putting out.

Finishing the workout the sense of achievement having completed the session was always going to surpass the power levels set.

But I know these tough session in the ‘hurt locker’ is where pb’s are made and will give me the strength in races to push myself the extra mile.

So next time you too are struggling during training ask yourself this “How bad do you want it?”

It will pay off. But not without plenty of demanding training.
